The 5th Annual Vince Messina Memorial Golf Tournament took place May 19 at Conewango Valley Country Club in Warren, PA, an 18 hole championship golf course, originally designed by Donald Ross. The tournament featured a four-person, net handicap golf scramble format and proceeds will grow the Vincent A. Messina Memorial Scholarship Fund at the WCA Foundation to provide scholarships for students of the UPMC Chautauqua WCA School of Radiology. Since the tournament’s inception 5 years ago, the committee has been able to raise over $90,000 to support the endowment fund at WCA foundation. The fourth scholarship award will be given at the UPMC Chautauqua WCA School of Radiologic Technology Commencement Ceremonies on the 8th of June 2018. The $2,000 award is applied to the student’s second year tuition at the school.
First place went to the team of Marty Messina, Eric Clark, Geoff Olson, Erik Hjemdahl-Monsen. Russ Cusimano, Dan Greco, Ben Toter, and Dan Bjork came in second place, and third place consisted of team members Peter Stark, Jason Stronz, Mike Moots, and Randy Ordines. With a tie breaking finish, fourth place consisted of the team of Bill Farr, Rich Farr, Erick Lindquist and Scott Graham. And, closing in with the fifth place spot was the team of Steve Pullan, Bill Erickson, Jeff Raines and Matt Raines.
“In the fifth year of the tournament, we are still so appreciative of all the hard work and dedication that goes into this tournament, and we are elated that the community came together once again to support such a worthy cause,” said Kathy Messina, committee member and wife of the late Vince Messina. “We couldn’t have done it without all of the local businesses donating in-kind donations or hole sponsor support. In addition, Dan and Beth Hocking, owners of ACME the Appliance store, went above and beyond and donated another 50 inch smart television set.”
Community members and local businesses made this tournament successful with their support of donations and sponsorships. There were twenty four teams of golfers who enjoyed a great day at Conewango Country Club. It was truly a day to remember, and the funds raised greatly surpassed the committees expectations. This was all thanks to Jim Pullan, chairman of the 2018 golf tournament, and the committee members who are dedicated in their commitment to honor Vince’s legacy. The sixth annual Vince Messina Memorial Golf Tournament will be held June 1, 2019 at Conewango Valley Country Club.
