Bill Rapaport, from left, Executive Director Brigetta Overcash, and Director of Development Megan Barone both of WCA Foundation are shown with two of the scary creations of Mary Rapaport, hostess of the Boo! To Breast Cancer Gala Saturday, October 29 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Chautauqua Suites Hotel. The event supports the Rapaports fight against breast cancer.
Halloween may be Mary Rapaport’s favorite holiday, but it isn’t as scary as her breast cancer diagnosis almost three decades ago. Her answer to that trauma is to fight the disease in every way she can to help others in her community. The October 27th Boo! To Breast Cancer Gala from 6 to 11 p.m. at Chautauqua Suites, Mayville, is the place to be to celebrate with ghosts and goblins while enjoying dinner, dancing and a costume contest for those who let their inner child out for the evening.
The $40 ticket cost – $75 for a couple – will be donated to the Rapaport Fund at WCA Foundation which this year helped purchase a Prone Biopsy System used for diagnosis and testing for breast cancer at UPMC Chautauqua. Mary and her husband, Bill, started the fund three years ago. The Boo! To Breast Cancer fundraising efforts have been in different forms over the past two years, but this year the Gala promises to take its supports over the top in celebrating their fight against the curable disease.
“The whole county is invited,” said Mary Rapaport with her contagious enthusiasm for the Gala. “We really need people to participate so we can support the efforts to continue being a front line pf excellence for diagnosing and treating breast cancer at UPMC Chautauqua’s hospital and Cancer Treatment Center. We have 50 gift baskets and mystery bags for participants to win or buy in addition to a fun photo machine! It is going to be a great time!”
She adds, “If you can’t attend, your donation to Boo! To Breast Cancer would be appreciated! Just send it to WCA Foundation.”
“This is going to be a wonderful event which will help so many in our community,” said Megan Barone. “It is rare that the ticket price is donated totally to the cause of the festivities. There are opportunities to sponsor parts of the event and to purchase tables for eight guests. I am happy to help donors find their special way to support our fight against breast cancer.”
